Lucia Falls

A little adventure is in our bones and we need to take advantage of every dry day we have left.

We went to Lucia Falls on Sunday to check out the Salmon jumping.  It was a short drive from our house and such a fun afternoon activity.

The falls weren't as big as I thought they would be, but I think that was a good thing.  The fish are trying to swim UP the falls and let me tell you - not very many appeared to make it.  It seemed like a hopeless task for them.  I didn't get any pictures of fish actually jumping.  I am not that good.
I didn't exactly know what "spawning" was when we got there.  I turned to Ben and said, "They are trying to get UP the waterfall? WHY???"  He explained that it was so they could lay their eggs because that is where they where they were born so they go back there to "spawn".  They live mostly live in salt water, but travel to their fresh water birth location. He also added that this is the last part of the Salmon's life and they die after they lay the eggs.  Interesting.
There were rock hills that faced the falls directly.  We decided to climb up on them to sit and watch the fish.  I wasn't sure what Oliver would think about climbing up rocks since he is still hesitant to jump out of the car.
HE LOVED CLIMBING ON THE ROCKS!
He was in dog heaven and wanted to be at the VERY top so he could see everything.

After all our hiking around on the rocks and our mile run/walk through the forest he was a little tuckered out. He loves to sit like this on our laps.  This little guy loves attention.  I wonder how he ever got that way!?!

Spawn on my little Salmon friends, and good luck!

I am so behind on my blog reading! Your dog is so cute and I have to introduce piper to him because she will go crazy for him.
