Celebrating Twenty-9

Well it finally happened.  I turned 29.  It feels great.  Actually, I don't feel a day over 25 - which is perfectly fine with me since aging isn't my favorite thing to do.

We decided to go to Las Vegas this year to celebrate.  Why not, right?  We dreamed of a hot sun and lots of pool time and that's exactly what we got.

Mothers.

How grateful we are for the wonderful mothers in our lives.
How willing they are to bless us with their support and unwavering love.

A Mother has such a power to influence good in this world.
She has the power to teach those around her to be better, stronger, more loving and kind.
She has the power to heal wounds with only a kiss and a band-aid to make it "all better".
She has the power to heal hearts with a promise that no matter what, she will stand by your side, she will never leave.

She has that smile that her children look for, even when they're all grown, that says, "I believe in you".
She is the absolute example of sacrifice, of service, of how to treat your fellow man.

What an overwhelming and important responsibility a mother has, but that is why she is your {and my} mother.  She can, and will, take on that responsibility. She knows the reward of influencing a child's life for good far outweighs the importance of a spotless shirt or a quiet house.  She knows the value of being a good, positive example and she, no doubt, will show you through her actions.  Because times are crazy and she wonders to herself how it could possibly get worse, it's then when she surprises even herself - because she smiles and teaches her children to keep pushing on - fighting for good.

Ben and I have both been blessed with amazing mothers. As well as, amazing grandmothers, friends, sisters, aunts and cousins who show, and teach us, every day the amazing power they have to influence lives for good.

Celebrating all of you and wishing you a very wonderful Mother's Day!

Birthday Ben

Saturday, the 16th, was  Ben's birthday!! I LOVE Birthday's and I was WAY more excited than Ben about his upcoming happy day.  The night before was like Christmas Eve for me.  As he slept dreaming of sugar plum fairies and catching up on the missed sleep of the week, I lie awake too excited to sleep and ready to get the birthday festivities under way!

I tried to let him sleep as long as I possibly could on Saturday morning before I rolled over and yelled {in a quiet morning voice} HAPPY BIRTHDAY as soon as he was showing motions of life I dragged him down the stairs for birthday surprises.  The birthday flag banner wasn't much of a surprise since he watched me make it on Friday night and kept asking, "What are you doing? What is that thing?"  He got my standard response when I am not divulging secrets, "Oh nothing."

I made pillow cookies for Birthday Ben.  They are GINORMOUS and full of sugary birthday goodness. They are a must try... recipe HERE.
Each chocolate chip cookie has a brownie inside.  These things are so decadent that you can cut the cookie into 4 pieces and still feel a sugar high.  Ben loved a cookie filled birthday breakfast.  Kids: Don't try this at home.
Ah, the cute birthday boy and what he called, "The Ben Shrine".... I suppose it kinda was

While I taught my running class on Saturday afternoon, Ben spent the day with his Mom helping take care of their beautiful property and getting it ready for some nice weather this week.

And, of course, getting the tractor stuck in the mud.  They had to pull the tractor out of the mud twice with the truck.  Once almost sliding right into the pond... for Ben that would have been the happiest birthday in history.

Saturday night we celebrated with some friends at dinner at Claim Jumper.  Dan and Shannon got Ben an awesome bumper sticker for his birthday reminding us how AWESOME it is to have us live in Washington!

I tried my best not to let anyone leave before taking a group picture.  Somehow Craig, Jesyca and Heather escaped my obsessive picture taking prison!  Thanks for joining us everyone, we had a great time!

Birthday's should NEVER only last one day.  The festivities continued on Sunday with a fun family dinner, presents and entertainment from Hanna and Hayden which is sure to always be a good time!

Ben is so loved and got so many texts, calls, blog posts and cards from wonderful friends and family wishing him a very happy day.  Thank you everyone for your love.

Happy Birthday Sweetheart! I hope it was fabulous!
