2011 Ornaments

We barely made it!  6 days before Christmas we\ picked out our 2011 Christmas ornaments.

This isn't a tradition that I had as a child.  We had lots of ornaments that we made when we were very young, but as we grew our tree was mostly filled with beautiful gold ornaments and fragile glass balls.  I wasn't a sentimental ornament kind of gal.  My husband however, is quite the opposite.  When we married he brought along bags filled with ornaments collected all through his life.  To be completely honest, I wasn't sure how I would deal with  this.  I was torn between beautiful sparkly snowflakes and Micheal Jordan dunking a basketball.

Last year the sentiment of buying an ornament got the best of me and we bought a few signifying our honeymoon and first Christmas together, but since we never fully unpacked in that house we didn't have any other sentimental ornaments to choose from.   I wasn't sure what I would do this year.
We decided on two trees.  One small beautiful Amber-tree that I could decorate however I please and one larger family tree that we could decorate and reminisce on memories and the significance of the ornaments being placed there.  It worked perfectly and I loved pulling out all of Ben's old ornaments and seeing how excited he got to see each one.

I decided our little family probably needed ornaments this year as well.  Especially with the addition of the pup, we needed to mark this time of our lives in stone, ornament-style.

After we picked out the ornaments we opened them to show Mr. O what he would get to put on the tree this year.  He loved it, I even got a little doggy kiss and then he tried to eat it.

Since Ben has been Mr. Fix It/ Builder of everything Amber can dream up this year he got a Merry Fix-mas measuring tape.  You should see this guy and his real measuring tape.  I am pretty sure he measures and re-measures 15 times.  He likes to be right-on and he is great at dividing crazy fraction type numbers to know exactly where a nail needs to be.  Most of the time I just stand in awe holding the level for him.

Amber got a little mini Christmas hat.  Can you see my love for accessorizing coming through with this one.  I love the little hat!  All I need is to attach it to a headband and I could rock it royal wedding style.  (wait... did I just think of a really good idea?)

I love that it's now our second year of Christmas traditions that we get to enjoy together.  Christmas time is so much fun!

I want to see a picture of the "amber-tree". And while I am proud of the compromise situation your big tree should be the pretty one. All in due time I guess. Super fun hat and yes the headband idea is great.
