Time for a tree

I knew there were people who decorated real Christmas trees in their home.  They talked about the smell of fresh pine.  The fun of picking out the tree and the different shapes and sizes they came in.  I knew there were those people, but I have never been one.  I have driven by the lots full of trees, the signs promising the best price, but I was never intrigued.

My sweet husband though, he is a lover of real trees.  He loves the smell, the process of putting it up and I knew Christmas wouldn't be complete without it.

Ben's friend told him about told him about a tree farm that was holding a funraiser for a dog shelter.  They were taking donations and finding new homes for sweet pups in need.  This event got the best of the new dog lover in me and we loaded up and headed to Sandy to check out the trees.
We have had the pleasure of having Bodie (Ben's parents pup) in our home for the last couple weeks as they finish the move to their new house.  We have loved having him and it is heaven for Oliver!  He loves having a built in friend for wrestling and playing.  The dogs couldn't wait to choose a tree and meet some new friends, but Ben insisted that I find them scarves so they wouln't get cold.  (I kid, I take blame for all craziness)

They were not interested in looking at me for a picture!
Everyone at the farm was really nice!  They had hundreds of trees to choose from and lots of dogs for adoption.  We didn't adopt one.

We did walk however, through lots and lots of trees to choose the perfect one.  We even had our own personal tree assistant.  Tyler.
Tyler didn't work there, nor did he know anyone who did, but he had much tree expertise and followed us around trying to sell us every tree!  He was hilarious.  Thanks Tyler!

It didn't take us too long to pick out the perfect tree for our home.  This was one of the EASIEST decisions we have ever made.

We cut it down and hauled it to the truck to take it home and add it to our holiday decor.

We had such a great time, and the pups were a hit! They LOVE to socialize. I even think I can jump on board with choosing a tree each year.  (Truth be told, we now have two trees up - one real and one fake.)
Thank goodness for Ben knowing how to care for a real tree!! He knew to cut the end and shake it out before it came in the house.  He even knew the best way to bring it in without getting pine needles everywhere and to tie it down just in case a crazy dog accidentally ran into it.  What would I do without him?

Doesn't it fit great.  Now we better get to decorating!
Happy tree shopping!

I've never had a real tree either, but I think I'm convinced that we should try it sometime! It looks so great - post a picture when it's all decorated so I can take in the fabulousness. Love you :o)
